Charming Christmas markets & artisan fairs
We recommend the annual market at nearby Ringwood, Winter Wanderland, which features around 70 stalls with local produce, crafts and seasonal treats, with free entertainment and the Christmas light switch-on in the town centre.
Exbury Gardens, one of our fantastic local partners, have their Christmas at Exbury events, full of festive trails, a Santa’s grotto and shopping opportunities for picking up those gifts for loved ones whilst you’re there.
Local villages including Lymington, New Milton and Hythe all host weekly markets, giving that extra special festive buzz in the run-up to Christmas.
Don’t miss our very own Christmas Gift Fayres at Beaulieu Hotel on 30th November 12-5pm and at Burley Manor on 11th December 3-7pm. Both are free entry (for guests and locals), simply RSVP to let us know you’ll be attending, and showcase wonderful local suppliers, providing the perfect gift ideas with delicious food and drink available, and a beautiful festive atmosphere to enjoy.
These festive markets provide the opportunity to sample local produce, browse artisan craft stalls, sample mulled wine and fully embrace the festive spirit. They are ideal for a family-friendly festive day out, or as an alternative date idea for couples.
Family-friendly festive days out & seasonal attractions
Prepare for all the festive fun at Paultons Park, home of Peppa Pig World (located on the edge of the New Forest and easily accessible from the M27). The popular family-friendly theme park goes all out when it comes to Christmas and their Celebration of Christmas event includes decorated rides and a visit from Father Christmas himself! Book ahead, as this one gets booked out fast.
Meanwhile, at Beaulieu National Motor Museum’s Palace House Christmas, you are invited to step back in time to a Victorian-style Christmas atmosphere, featuring festive trails, carols and interactive fun for all ages.
Marwell Zoo’s popular Glow at Marwell Light Trail is sure to wow, or head to Sir Harold Hillier Gardens Light up Trail for a magical family activity (make sure you check our offers for a special accommodation package for this one, available to book now).
There are plenty of family-friendly activities dotted throughout the New Forest this winter, from woodland trails to wreath-making workshops and hands-on seasonal crafts. Whether you’re visiting the area with young children, or simply looking for something festive to add to your itinerary, these attractions are guaranteed to deliver bundles of seasonal fun for all.
Planning your visit – tips for a smooth festive family outing
- Check dates and opening times in advance, as these can change during the festive season. Book ahead to avoid disappointment, especially those events with limited availability such as light trails, Santa visits and workshops.
- Dress for the season – remember that it’s getting chilly out there now. Bundle up in warm layers, with hats, gloves and scarfs, especially if you are heading for an event that’s taking place outside. Remember wellies too, if it’s been raining as the New Forest can get extra muddy at times!
- Weekends and school holidays are usually busier. If you are travelling with young children, why not take advantage of quieter midweek dates – you can discover our best rates online and book direct for the best prices!
- Remember that our team are always happy to help recommend local events and attractions. Check out our Offers section to find out about the events happening in our own hotels too, including our Christmas Gift Fayres and Wreath Workshops.
From artisan stalls to a whole host of family-friendly activities throughout the local area, there truly is something for everybody this winter in the New Forest and surrounding area. Whatever you are on the lookout for, to help enhance your festive break, we’re ready and waiting to welcome you to New Forest Hotels this December, and we look forward to sharing the magic of the season with you.
